Why We Prefer Velcro
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011When my wife and I first started using re-usable diapers on our baby we were determined to find out what worked best. We tried all the brands out there – some fastened using pins, some using poppers and others used Velcro.
We’d already made our minds up that we wanted to use cotton, as this is the friendliest fabric next to your baby’s skin. So now we only had to decide on what we would use to hold this cotton nappy in place.
We found the material that we wanted to use for the cover – PUL which is waterproof and breathable but we were unsure of how to fasten this cover together.
The pins seemed too risky, didn’t want to puncture any precious skin! The poppers were too fiddley – when a wriggling baby is in front of you, you just need something that sticks quickly.
We came to the conclusion Velcro worked the best – it was easy to stick and unstuck, but stayed stuck when needed. This is one of the reasons we chose Real Nappies. So now we had the best material next to our baby’s skin and a very convenient cover to hold that diaper in place.
