12 Reasons to choose Real Nappies Cloth Diapers

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

We’ve put together 12 of the many reasons to choose Real Nappies cloth diapers versus other available cloth diaper systems:

  1. Real Nappies is the most comprehensive pack available, it is a serious Birth to Potty Pack!  When checking out competitors make sure to look at actual pack contents, our pack gives enough for 24 newborn changes for example so it means 1 machine wash every 2-3 days per child.

More Potty Training Tips!!

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

One thing I will suggest with Potty Training is don’t rush!  To be honest at 18 months to potty train is really early and the danger of potty training too early is your little one may revert back to diapers.  Having said that little ones train at different ages so here are a few signs to look out for and then go for it.  It may take a few attempts, but never push and if your littlie starts getting frustrated leave it a couple of weeks and then try again.  Many little ones when they hit the 2 year (or around that stage), they show an instant sign of wanting to potty train – showing an interest when you go to the toilet, or wanting to sit on the toilet or taking their diapers off.  (more…)

Real Nappies cloth diapers gain öko-tex certification

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

So just what is öko-tex?

Oko-Tex (sounds like echo-tex) is a process of testing that checks for over 100 harmful substances.  Our cotton diapers go through a pain-staking process whereby they are tested for over 100 harmful substances.  Oko-Tex is the evaluation standard for the human ecological standard of textiles.

Why do we love öko-tex?

When you deal with Real Nappies you will know from the beginning that you are dealing with a company that cares, well Oko-Tex have the same ethos.  The testing that our cotton diapers undergo is absolutely exhaustive, every thread, every stitch, every layer is tested for over 100 harmful substances.  Plus to achieve certification our cotton diapers must be regularly re-tested to remain certified.

Cloth diapers – help! aaarrrrggghhhh!

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Who has got time for cloth??

Look, we know what you mean – we’ve been there!  You’re pregnant, OK that’s hard enough to get your head around as it is.  Then people tell you what the essential items are: crib, bassinet, moses basket, baby carrier, diaper bag, stroller, etc etc, the list in endless so you start trawling around the shops, checking it all out.  Then you wish you hadn’t, not only are you feeling tired, agitated and my goodness always hungry, but you then find out that there are so many options you want to scream!  Take Baby strollers for an example:   there are lightweight strollers, Full size strollers, jogging strollers, travel system strollers, 4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, arrrghhh!

Just when you thought you had it sorted!

Then you get to diapers, well that’s easy isn’t it?  Just pop to the mall and grab a pack, yes?….  Then your friend asks if you’ve considered using cloth……      WHAT!!! … you ask, those plastic pants, pins and leaks – are you kidding??!!  (more…)

Pins, plastic pants and leaks???? Not with Real Nappies!

Why we started Real Nappies

“You are so lucky nowadays you don’t have to use those awful cloth diapers, pins and plastic overpants!”  That was the comment of my mom when I told her I was pregnant.  Then 7 years later here we are with the largest Cloth Diaper Company in New Zealand.  So why did we make this decision, and not only make the decision to use cloth but to start up a company and become so passionate about it that here we are today launching into the USA.

Well actually I blame my husband….

…yes my husband was the one who once read a little article about the chemical content in disposables and simply dropped into conversation one day that he would not be using disposables on our baby.  Well news to me I thought!  OK, I said thinking back to the warnings of plastic pants from my mum!  Newborns are hard enough without worrying about leaky diapers!
