5 minutes a day is all it takes to use Real Nappies cloth diapers!

Using Real Nappies Cloth Diapers equates to an extra 5 minutes a day.  How do we work that one out?  Well based on our recommend quantity of diapers (as seen in our Birth to Potty Pack), we suggest the following:

Contents:

24 diapers (for Newborn, Infant stage) reducing to 18 crawler and 12 toddler

5/6 wraps for each of the 4 stages.

Change Time

You change your Newborn baby between 8-10 times a day, this reduces as your baby gets older down to aprox 6 times a day as a Toddler.  With our Birth to Potty Pack we have calculated that based on the usual consumption of diapers, you would only need to wash every 3rd day, equating to an extra 5 minutes spent each day to use Real Nappies Cloth Diapers.

5 minutes a day calculation

1 MINUTE: We recommend using our bioliners (included in Birth to Potty Pack)– these are a super soft, 100% biodegradable, one-way diaper liner that allows all the moisture to pass through onto the diaper but captures the solids.  Simply flush this away with the solids down the toilet.
1 MINUTE: Fold the diaper in the relevant fold (girl / boy or newborn)
1 MINUTE: Pop the wet cloth diaper in a dry bucket in the Laundry

TOTAL: 3 MINUTES P/DAY

2 MINUTES:  We saved these remaining 2 minutes as to go towards the washing on the 3rd day.  This would give you a total of 6 minutes gained over the 3 days: transferring the entire contents of the bucket to the washing machine, adding detergent, sanitizer (we recommend Real Nappies Nappy Fresh, included in Birth to Potty Pack) and turning the machine on.  The remaining 4 minutes would be for hanging your diapers on the line or popping them in the dryer.

TOTAL: 5 MINUTES P/DAY

So there’s your extra 5 minutes a day explained, not so hard is it?  Just think of all the benefits you gain by this extra 5 minutes spent on your baby each day:

-          earlier potty training

-          natural, chemical-free comfort against babies’ skin

-          saving $$$’s!

-          saving the planet

Give your baby the very best start with Real Nappies Cloth Diapers.

A very interesting blog post. What would you say was the most common problem?

Hi, I would say the most common problems are:
    1) people not buying enough cloth diapers to see them through to wash day
    2) people trying to upsize too quickly and therefore their diapers are not a snug enough fit or are too bulky and therefore leak
    3) thinking you can get away with upsizing the cover/wrap but not the inside cotton diaper. Each of our diapers are intended to be used with their respective sizes: nb wrap with nb inner etc. The cotton diaper increases in size, layers and absorbency to suit the increasing weight of baby. Following these simple guidelines will ensure a snug, leakproof fit. (All the sizes of cover and inner are included in the Birth to Potty Pack).
    4) We have spoken to many people that use disposable diapers that believe they only have to change 1 to 2 diapers a day. To be honest in whichever diaper you use – cloth or disposable- they really should be changed every 2- 4 hours, this helps prevent diaper rash too, as long as you change your baby every 2-4 hours Real Nappies are fantastic. At night time simply pop in a booster for a dry night!
We have found a lot of other “Birth to Potty Packs” do not really include everything you need and we wanted to supply the lot. As users of Real Nappies ourselves we found washing every 3rd day to be really easy. You also do not have to be ultra organised with the washing which is great, as every 3 days is no big deal. Plus with the cotton prefold diapers they are so quick to dry and do not need to be soaked so they are a really simple option.
